In June, a LEGO SEGA Genesis Console will be available!

As part of the deluge of Summer 2026 reveals, LEGO has also pulled the curtains off a peculiar new retro console set, 40926 SEGA Genesis Console!

This 479-piece brick-built model of the iconic SEGA Genesis (or Mega Drive, as its best known in Japan, Europe and Australia) will launch on 1 June 2026, and it has a pretty sensible US$39.99 / AU$59.99 / £34.99 pricetag.

There’s even a Sonic the Hedgehog cartridge, which mimics the actual 1991 game that you can insert into the console.I have to say that it looks a little odd, especially the controllers. The console itself looks pretty good, and will make a nice little display model for retro gamers, and those of us who grew up playing Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Streets of Rage or Shining Force.

  • It’s quite an interesting move from LEGO, as we just got a 40769 SEGA Genesis Controller just last year as a GWP (gift with purchase).

That one was a near 1:1 faithful replica of an actual Sega Mega Drive Controller (complete with Genesis and Mega Drive stickers), and was well-received by old school SEGA fans.

The controllers on this console are a lot cruder, however the whole system has been scaled down significantly to fit the US$40 pricetag.
